The King County Superior Court Clerk keeps and maintains case files dating from 1854 for the Superior Court. Most case files are, with some exceptions, public records and available for viewing by the general public. The Clerk maintains these records as scanned images for viewing on a computer, filmed microfilm images and paper documents.

To obtain copies of documents, the requestor must know the case number. Links to research case numbers are available here http://dw.courts.wa.gov/index.cfm?fa=home.home

If the case number is not given, a records research request must be completed with the following mandatory information: Name(s) of involved parties, Case type (criminal, civil, domestic, probate, guardianship), and the approximate filing year. Other additional information that would be helpful to the clerk in the research may also be provided. The cost of the research request is $20 per hour. An initial payment of $20 on the website will start the research. The Clerk will respond within 14 working days with the following information from the research: case number, case name, and case filing date. If the requestor would like copies of documents from that research, a new document request must be completed and case number is required.

When the case number is known for cases initiated since 2000 the requestor will select the documents that need to be copied and indicate the quantity and type (plain, certified, exemplified) Sealed documents are not available for viewing. A convenience fee of $1.49 for internet check or $2.49 for credit card and $10.00 Shipping and Handling fee will be added to the cost of the copies.

If the documents are in a case that was filed before 2000, a request for page count is required. Case number, party(s) name, case filing year and name of the requested documents are required. Upon receipt of the page count request, the Clerk will locate the document and provide the number of pages for requested documents within 14 working days by sending an email directing the user to log in to the website to retrieve informaiton and redirected to purchase desired copies of documents. A $2.49 convenience fee and $10.00 Shipping and Handling fee will be charged for copies of documents.

If the requestor wants expedited handling, an additional fee of $30 will be charged and the Clerk will process it promptly. An email will be sent to the user when the documents are mailed.
